Prior to his stint at UAB, Veach worked in the National Pro Fastpitch league, serving as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Comets in 2017. “If the chemistry we have shown to this point is any indication of what the future holds for this program, it will prove to be a great time to be a Fightin’ Texas Aggie!” I hope you will join me in welcoming Brian back to our Hunter community when he joins us later this semester.“I am thrilled to be a part of the staff Coach Ford has put together,” Veach said. We were quite fortunate to have Andy Polsky (Dean of Arts & Sciences) serve as Chair of the search committee, and are grateful for his steadfast leadership throughout this search. In addition, we had three remarkable student representatives: Sandra-May Flowers (Theatre), Claudia Paguay (Media Studies/Urban Studies), and Saif Zahiri (Religion/Political Science). Meg Bausman (Head Librarian for the School of Social Work) and Stephanie Margolin (Instructional Design Librarian) served as exceptionally impressive representatives for the library faculty and staff. Mike Drain (Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry), Yang Hu (Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the School of Education), and Maria Loh (Professor, Art History) represented the broader Hunter faculty. The committee included representatives from across Hunter College. I deeply appreciate the search committee’s great dedication to the process, and their commitment to a strong, fair, and inclusive search which was reflected in the high caliber of candidates brought to campus. Brian has a clear sense of the challenges and opportunities of urban academic libraries, and he has a thoughtful and tactical view of how best to address them. In addition, his experience working successfully with two CUNY institutions has given him valuable insight to deftly navigate our complex CUNY system. He understands the importance of the Dean’s role as a strong advocate for faculty and students, and he brings fresh vision and ideas to our leadership team. He has earned tenure as a library faculty member at three different institutions and has a deep commitment to supporting untenured faculty as they progress through the tenure process. He helped develop a strong information literacy program at Adelphi, and built successful consortia library partnerships that allowed the libraries to meet the research needs of the University while repurposing space to strengthen and enhance student experiences.īrian’s impressive personal scholarship focuses on information literacy and academic library assessment. He and his team transformed the library into a commons for collaborative learning, innovation, and creative scholarly production.

The strength of his experience during his years away from Hunter College, and his interest in returning to his “homebase,” combined with his dedication to serving diverse urban populations, is a wonderful match for our community.Īs the Dean of University Libraries at Adelphi University, Brian oversaw the successful redesign and renovation of Adelphi’s libraries and lead the faculty and staff through a comprehensive mission, vision and strategic planning process.

Since 2013, Brian has served as the Dean of University Libraries at Adelphi University where he has provided remarkable leadership and direction for its campus. From 2012 to 2013, Brian was asked to serve as the Interim Chief Librarian for CUNY’s Medgar Evars College to help guide it through a challenging transition and to lead the final critical phase of a wholescale library renovation.

While here, he served as the Instruction & Science Reference Librarian (2005-2010), and the Head of Research and Instruction (2011-2012). Some of you may already know Brian from his former work at Hunter College libraries as a tenured Associate Professor. Provost Kaufman and I look forward to working in partnership with him as we continue to grow our libraries into the energizing and welcoming spaces that define a truly modern academic campus. Brian brings clear intellectual depth, impressive academic credentials and a strong record of administrative accomplishments to this position.
